WHEN the searing pain hit, along with an agonising, burning sensation when she went to the toilet, Penaran Higgs knew she had developed another bout of cystitis. Yet on this occasion, over-the-counter remedies failed to clear it up and four days later, Pen, an animal behaviourist from London, ended up in A&E.
