Doctors should give smokers a CT scan of their lungs to encourage them to quit, a new study advises.
The scare tactic allows those with the notoriously bad habit to see if they have an early, but preventable, stage of lung cancer.
And a new British trial found this method was twice as effective at helping smokers to completely give up lighting their cigarettes. 
Researchers said the findings dispute the belief that finding out they have cancer would give them a 'licence to smoke'.
