Director wins top theatre award for Royal Exchange production of Wit with Julie Hesmondhalgh
 

The director of critically-acclaimed play at the Royal Exchange, staring former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh, has picked up a top honour at the UK Theatre Awards.
Raz Shaw received the award for the best director at the ceremony - which also saw Bolton-born Sir Ian McKellen given the outstanding contribution to British theatre prize.
Shaw's production of Wit, which ran at the Royal Exchange in Manchester city centre at the start of 2016, was described as 'emotional dynamite' by one critic.
