Digging in at Lennel Kirk



The 12th century kirk at Lennel, near Coldstream, has been under investigation by Coldstream Primary School pupils.
They joined archaeologist Richard Carlton and members of Coldstream Heritage Company, who instigated the search to unearth the kirk’s long and complex history.
The children helped volunteers on site, discovering 16th century gravestones and taking part in the archaeological dig. Richard also encouraged the group to look for clues in the old kirk walls – searching for evidence of alterations made to the church during different phases.
