Derbyshire concrete firm Stanton Bonna fined £270,000 after 100kg steel lid broke worker's jaw
 

A Derbyshire concrete firm has been fined £270,000 after a 100kg steel mixer lid crashed on to an employee's head, fracturing his jaw.
The worker was cleaning equipment at Stanton Bonna Concrete Ltd in Ilkeston, a leading UK manufacturer of precast concrete pipes and manholes, when a wire winch holding the lid over a concrete mixer snapped, Nottingham Crown Court was told.
The company admitted that it had failed to ensure the safety of employees at work, including the victim, and as well as the fine, was ordered to pay costs of £24,248.10 and a victim surcharge of £150.
