Derby to be put 'on world stage' by deal with Chinese city



City council officials will next week fly 5,500 miles to sign an agreement in China that could see investors bring jobs and industry to Derby.
Council leader Ranjit Banwait says China is an economic "superpower" and says the contract will propel Derby "on to the world stage".
Mr Banwait sees the deal with Hefei - pronounced "hur-fee", a city east of Shanghai - as the gateway to drawing globally-expanding Chinese companies to Derby.
