Derby taxi driver stabbed by passenger Ryan Lawton over fare dispute - but did police fail him?
 

A taxi firm boss says police failed a cabbie who asked them for help over a passenger who would not pay his fare. The driver was later stabbed.
However, police say they DID offer advice and could not have predicted the attack.
The cabbie had driven to Derby's St Mary's Wharf police station in the early hours of the morning but could only reach officers via an intercom. He says they told him non-payment of a fare was a civil matter and that he should ring 101. The cabbie drove off and was later attacked by his passenger.
