Derby library staff told they can't take part in day of action



Library staff in Derby have been told by Derby City Council they cannot take part in a union's national SOS day of action tomorrow designed to help save them from closure.
In July, Derby City Council announced that from next April it would only maintain five city libraries and offer the other 10 to community groups to run. The move could cost up to 41 library staff their jobs and a restructuring process is currently taking place.
Two libraries – Chellaston and Allenton - will tomorrow defy the council by holding events to mark the day which is being staged by Unison across the country.
