Deputy Mayor blames 'political obsessives' for 'heightening tensions' after car torched
 

Middlesbrough’s deputy mayor has slammed arsonists who torched his car - blaming a group of “political obsessives” for “heightening tensions” in the town.
Councillor Charlie Rooney’s car was set alight in the Acklam area late on Tuesday night.
Cllr Rooney said that a “campaign” of criticism of the council had “heightened tensions” in the town - and created an atmosphere he believes helped contributed to the attack.
Cllr Rooney, who has been a councillor since 2003, called the behaviour of certain people “abhorrent”.
