Department of Health: 'It's not Health Secretary's place to comment on Leicester A&E crisis'



The Leicester Mercury approached the Department of Health for a response from Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt about the emergency care crisis in Leicester.
People in the city are being urged to stay away from A&E unless it is a real emergency - while alternative destinations are being suggested.
The Department of Health press office told us that it was not Mr Hunt's or the department's position to comment.
While Mr Hunt does have responsibility for the NHS, the situation in Leicester was an "operational" matter, it said - and so NHS England needed to respond.
