Death of Scunthorpe United legend 'Merve the Swerve' Mervyn Jones



Former Scunthorpe United winger Mervyn Jones has died in a Bristol nursing home at the age of 85 years.
Jones, who was born in Bangor, Wales, played 263 games for The Iron between 1953 and 1959 and was a major force in the 1957-58 third divison north championship.
The Welsh winner scored 33 goals including three against Portsmouth in the 1953-54 FA Cup in the tie and the first replay Fratton Park.
During his stay in Scunthorpe he recalled his proudest moment was being picked for Wales at junior international level against Scotland while on National Service with the RAF
