TORY MPs, including those currently in Theresa May’s Cabinet, enthusiastically backed George Osborne’s austerity-based “plan” to produce a budget surplus by 2020 as recently as June.
Labour frontbenchers deferred to Osborne’s reputation, advocating austerity-lite and accepting his position to prioritise paying down the national debt.
Their stance was in marked contrast to that championed by Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell, who were derided by their opponents in the Tory Party and their enemies in Labour as unrealistic and economically untrustworthy.
