With 50,000 rammed into Hazeltine, it was raucous, partisan and pretty uncomfortable for Europe all round yesterday but it was the Masters champion who bore the brunt of the American fans’ bating - after his brother’s bating of them. Captain Darren Clarke’s decision to delay Willett’s entry into the fray until the afternoon fourballs did him few favours with the rowdy Minnesota crowd revved up by America’s morning redwash and a few hours’ drinking.
