Cumbrian MEP 'seriously ill' after Ukip altercation
 

A Cumbrian MEP who was a hot-contender to become the next Ukip leader is seriously ill in hospital.
The party originally confirmed that Steven Woolfe collapsed in the European Parliament building in Strasbourg this morning.
However, Nigel Farage, Ukip's interim leader, later confirmed that it followed an earlier incident.
"I deeply regret that following an altercation that took place at a meeting of Ukip MEPs this morning, Steven Woolfe subsequently collapsed and was taken to hospital," said MR Farage, in a statement.
"His condition is serious."
