Cumbria's highest ranking council boss announces retirement



Diane Wood, chief executive of Cumbria County Council, will step down from her position in February 2017.
Mrs Wood, who has clocked up 35 years in local government - serving the last eight in the county - has held her £140,000 a year post since 2013.

In a statement outlining her decision to leave, she said: "My decision to retire has not been taken lightly and while I am very sad to be leaving I am also looking forward to time with friends and family and maybe even some new challenges ahead.
