Councils have had to intervene 4,000 times when children were at risk of abuse last year



Councils across Greater Manchester have had to intervene in thousands of cases where children are deemed to be at risk of abuse in the last year.
Across the region there were 4,214 instances when children were put on a child protection plan because of potential, or actual, abuse in 2016-17.
Of those, 151 cases related to children who were at risk of potential, or actual, sexual abuse.
The NSPCC says the latest figures, which come from the Department for Education, show how important it is for local authorities to act quickly if they suspect a child is suffering abuse or neglect.
