Cost of living fears subside as inflation falls to 0.9% in October - but producers face soaring costs



Fears that households would be hit by a rapidly rising cost of living subsided today with the news that inflation fell in October.
The rate came down to 0.9 per cent from 1 per cent in September, defying expectations that it would increase to a two-year high of 1.2 per cent.
But there were signs that sterling's fall is ramping up costs for manufacturers, with the producer prices index showing total input prices rising 12.2 per cent in October, compared to a 7.3 per cent rise in September.
