Construction sector suffer August reverse but ONS plays down Brexit impact



The construction sector looks to have contracted in the third quarter and acted as a drag on the UK economy after output dropped unexpectedly in August, figures show.
All areas of construction except for private commercial saw a monthly drop, including housebuilding, which fell 1.3 per cent - although the biggest slump was in infrastructure projects such as roads, railways and electricity.
The Office for National Statistics played down a Brexit effect on August’s 1.5 per cent drop in construction output, saying monthly figures can be highly volatile.
