Cockroaches, filthy toilets and damp-ridden walls - these are the conditions some inmates at Walton prison are living in.
Images released by a prisons watchdog today highlight the bleak facilities at HMP Liverpool, with smashed cell windows and graffiti-covered walls also a feature of the ageing complex.
The pictures were published as part of a national report highlighting concerns that too many prisoners are forced to spend too much of their days locked inside squalid and overcrowded cells.
