The man who killed PC Dave Phillips was a druggie, a thief and a burglar whose sad existence saw him drift from sofa to sofa.
Homeless Clayton Williams never went to high school and even those responsible for defending him accepted he was “no angel”.
But they also argued he was not a murderer - and ultimately convinced his murder trial jury they were right.
