Chester Zoo delighted with birth of rare Javan green magpie chicks

Four Javan green magpies have hatched at Chester Zoo in a UK first for conservationists.
This is the first time the world’s rarest magpie, which hails from Indonesia, has been bred successfully at a zoo in this country.
With its beautiful plumage and bird song, numbers are critically low in the wild because they are prized as caged birds and their habitat is fast disappearing.
That’s why Chester Zoo has been working with Taman Safari Indonesia and conservation partners Cikananga Wildlife Centre.
