Steve Wetton, of Chaddesden, looks back on two close encounters with celebrities
For quite a while as a schoolboy in the 1950s, I was lucky enough to go to the Hippodrome Theatre, in Derby's Green Lane, every week.
This was a real treat for somebody born and raised in the old West End of Derby. Not that my parents could afford it.
The treat was made possible because my lovely Aunty May, who lived in Walter Street, was married to Joe Roome, who had a cobbler's shop in Parker Street that displayed a large poster for the Hippodrome advertising upcoming acts.
