Carer who punched 80-year-old dementia patient avoids jail
 

A carer who punched an 80-year-old dementia sufferer in the arm has been handed a community order.
Michelle Mitchell, 53, attacked the woman at the Northlea Court Care Home, in Cramlington, in Northumberland, on March 13.
She then scratched her own arm and claimed the pensioner had grabbed her first, according to a colleague who witnessed the incident.
She had denied the assault but was convicted last week on one charge of a care worker ill-treat/willfully neglecting an individual at South East Northumberland Magistrates’.
