Care services for Newcastle's elderly and disabled are 'at breaking point'
 

Services for elderly and disabled people in Newcastle “are at breaking point”.
And a senior official said Newcastle City Council was facing a major increase in the number of elderly residents, who are more likely to need care - at the same time as it was forced to cut the number of people receiving services.
The warning about the future of social care in the city comes as the official watchdog for social care, the Care Quality Commission, warned services nationwide are reaching “tipping point”.
