Cancer-battling doctor struck down by disease herself

A Birmingham scientist who is helping in the battle against cancer suffered a major setback when she was diagnosed with the disease herself.
In an ironic twist of fate, Dr Beth Lucas, 27, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma while she was studying for her PhD at the University of Birmingham.
She found an lump the size of an olive near her collarbone which she thought at first was an allergy, but she later discovered it was cancer.
Three years on Beth, from Stourbridge, is in remission and now her work at the university is supported by Cancer Research UK.
