Campaigners rejoice as Scottish Government bans controversial coal mining technology
 

A controversial mining technology has been banned by the SNP Government over environmental concerns.
Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse said he will not allow underground coal gasification in Scotland.
The practice, which is different to fracking, involves drilling to a coal seam which is set on fire to release gas.
Licences had been granted for UCG extraction under the Firth of Forth and Solway Firth, but put on hold while the SNP decided whether to impose a ban.
