Campaigners bid to stop Newcastle's landmark Odeon cinema from being demolished
 

“Hands off” was the defiant message from campaigners who want to save a once-thriving cinema from being demolished.
The former Odeon building on Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, is set to be pulled down as part of an ambitious plan to redesign part of the city centre.
The disused cinema - empty since 2002 - is central to plans to transform the area between Northumberland Street and Market Street into a retail zone, boosting the city’s appeal as a shopping destination.
A site notice displayed at the building states that demolition work is due to begin on November 1.
