Butterfly numbers in North East plummet but there is good news



The North East was one of the few bright spots in a nationwide butterfly count which has caused alarm bells to ring among wildlife experts.
While like the rest of the country the region has seen numbers plummet, due to climate change, a wider variety of species are now being seen here.
The results are from this summer’s Big Butterfly Count - a nationwide survey in which members of the public counted the number of butterflies in their garden between July 14 to August 6.
