Orders banning the wearing of the full-body Muslim swimwear were drafted in the wake of the carnage in Nice where a self-styled jihadist ran amok in a truck and killed 86 people.
Identical burkini bans were imposed in more than 30 coastal towns on the French Riviera in summer.
Many mayors stated that the Muslim bodysuit was an “ostentatious display of religion” and could not be tolerated both in light of France’s strict secular culture and following the recent outbreak of terror attacks.
