Budding archaeologists to search for County Durham mining history before it is 'lost forever'
 

A community archaeology project is to investigate a valley’s early industrial sites which helped begin the transformation of the North East landscape.
A dig starts on Thursday at Dipton in County Durham to search for buildings linked to 18th century coal mining, which with the Derwent Valley’s iron, steel and railway undertakings put the area in the forefront of the Industrial Revolution.
