BT shuts down email scam which offered customers fake refunds
 

A scam targeting BT customers in the North has been foiled by the company.
Customers received emails saying they were entitled to a refund on their bills and asking them to log into an account to claim online.
The friendly-looking email included a group shot of about 20 smiling people, supposedly BT staff.
But there was a catch and anyone logging in would have been asked to provide details which could be used to gain access to their bank accounts.
BT said the emails were an example of phishing - and an attempt to get money by pretending to be from a trustworthy source.
