British Steel first for coke oven operative



A MACHINE operative at the Appleby coke ovens has become the first British Steel employee to complete an NVQ in manufacturing operations.
Gareth Kenvyn previously worked at the Dawes Lane coke ovens on Scunthorpe steelworks before being redeployed during a restructure of the business.
He has now completed the NVQ qualification, which is funded by the Government-backed British Steel Taskforce.
The NVQ is made up of six modules and includes health and safety questions, practical assessments and observations.
