BREAKING: Pilot of Columbia plane told air traffic control it had run out of fuel
 

In the recordings made the pilot can be heard repeatedly requesting permission to land due to "total electrical failure" and a lack of fuel before the plane crashed into a mountainside killing all but six of the 77 passengers on board.
A female controller can be heard giving instructions as the aircraft lost speed and altitude about eight miles from the Medellin airport.
Just before going silent the pilot said he was flying at an altitude at 9,000 feet.
