Bransholme mum Julie Leighton stops smoking after 44 years



She was smoking 40 cigarettes a day despite suffering a debilitating lung condition but found the strength to give up after 44 years.
Now, as thousands of people embark on the Stoptober challenge today to finally kick the habit, Julie Leighton has told how her seventh attempt to quit for good was a success.
She said: "My son has been asking me to stop smoking for years but this time I did it for me. I stopped because I wanted to stop.
"I know I've stopped for good this time because I've done it for myself, not anyone else. And if I can do it, anyone can."
