Conventional wisdom in markets is often little more than the direction of the moment, projected as a straight line into the future. Barely a week ago the commodities and natural resources sectors were seen as locked in indefinite decline, frontline victims of a China-led global slowdown. These, surely, were areas for investors to avoid.
Well, that was until last week. Markets closed last Friday after their best week this year amid optimism over the outlook for commodity prices. The very sectors that seemed draped by a leper’s bell roared back.
