Big Six energy firms blocking cheap fuel deals for existing customers who pay up to £289 a year over the odds

Four in ten energy customers are blocked from getting their supplier’s cheapest deal.
Big Six providers EDF Energy, Eon and SSE are all offering cheap tariffs to new customers. Households already with these suppliers will pay up to £289 a year over the odds if they stay.
EDF Energy has a top one-year fixed tariff for new customers that costs an average of £780 a year.
The best deal for existing customers is its standard variable deal costing £1,069, according to comparison website Energyhelpline.
