TEENAGER Ben Edkins has made history as the country’s youngest glider pilot.
The Stratford-upon-Avon School student completed his first solo flight from Snitterfield Airfield on his 14th birthday on Wednesday, 5th October, watched by his mum and dad, Sharon and Chris, and his grandparents, and with his sister, Charlotte, 11, at the end of her phone at school.
Later the same day he began his training for his Private Pilot Licence (PPL) at Wellesbourne Airfield, with the aim of being ready to fly a plane on his own when he turns 16 — the earliest the law allows him to do so.
