Beggar jailed for one night - after failing to leave Hanley city centre



Beggar Kerry Martin refused to quit the city centre after complaints from shoppers.
The 40-year-old was issued with a Section 35 dispersal notice to leave Hanley and stay out for 48 hours after shoppers told police she was sat in a shop doorway asking for money.
But the defendant failed to go and was arrested.
Now she has been ordered to serve one day's detention at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
