Babcock's revenues leapt to £2.3 billion, boosted by a £443 million training contract with the French Air Force.
Profits at the defence and nuclear contractor were up 2.3 per cent to £275.8 million, despite pressures on military spending in the UK.
Babcock said it saw opportunities from the Government’s shipbuilding strategy, which aims to see work shared among a broader range of companies. 
It is also winning work in the burgeoning oil and gas decommissioning market, including closing down British Gas owner’s Centrica’s gas storage site in the North Sea.
