Awkward moment when painting that sold for £8m turned out to be fake
 

Five years after an oil painting sold for a reported £8.4million, it has been revealed as a forgery.
A version of ‘An Unknown Man’ was auctioned off at vast expense in 2011, believed to have been painted by Dutch artist Frans Hal.
In fact it was painted by an unknown criminal who has been dubbed the art world’s ‘Moriarty of the Old Master’.
The world’s oldest cat just celebrated his 31st birthday and looks as chipper as ever Auction house Sotheby’s, which sold the painting, said their client had been fully refunded after tests showed the work was ‘undoubtedly’ a fake.
