Author Ian Rankin at centre of his own crime drama after police mistake him for a burglar
 

Rebus author Ian Rankin found himself at the centre of his own crime drama after he was mistaken for a burglar.
Police turned up at the novelist’s home to question him after a neighbour reported a man acting suspiciously on his street.
When the officers arrived in Edinburgh’s affluent Merchiston, a resident told them their description of the “prowler” sounded like Rankin.
They then went to the Fife-born 56-year-old’s home.
