As a 25th anniversary performance of Miss Saigon hits cinemas a tour of the city it was set in reveals it's now a fascinating tourist-friendly metropolis (complete with US fast-food outlets)

The imposing gates are still in place. The helicopters are long departed. But Le Duan Street in District 1, site of the US Embassy in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, is still haunted by what happened here 41 years ago.
As the Vietnam War came to its bloody conclusion thousands of the beleaguered city's occupants jostled and clamoured at the closed embassy gates seeking entry, rescue and escape from the advancing North Vietnamese.
