Arrogant unlicensed 120mph chase driver said crash into fence was 'controlled stop'
 

A speeding motorist claimed his crash into a fence was a “controlled stop” after a 120mph police chase.
Gerald Appleyard, 50, raced at “breakneck speed” during an eight-mile pursuit with three passengers, including a pregnant woman.
He swerved violently with tyres screeching, overtook a cyclist at 83mph and ran red lights, putting people in “mortal danger”, Teesside Crown Court heard today.
He drove on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic. Other drivers braked to avoid crashes.
