According to the NHS, phobias are a an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal.
They are different to fears, and happen when a person has an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger about that particular situation or object.
It’s a type of anxiety disorder and can restrict day-to-day activities, as well as cause a lot of distress.
Symptoms include dizziness, nausea, sweating, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, trembling or shaking and an upset stomach.
In the UK some phobias are more common than others.
