Murray was playing his first competitive match since his Davis Cup win over Guido Pella a fortnight ago, during which he suffered a thigh injury, and he got back in the groove with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
"I did okay considering I hadn't played much the last couple of weeks. I didn't arrive here until a couple of days ago," he said. "I can play better, but there was some good stuff in there.
"I like I'm able to get a lot of chances when he's serving, I am able to give myself a lot of opportunities to break.
