A rare Black Moon is rising on Friday - but what is it and why is it significant?

September is bringing us yet another rare astronomical event in the skies.
We’ve had supermoons, blood moons, harvest moons, eclipses - and next up is a Black Moon.
Already there has been talk about the rare moon bringing the End of Days because it follows an annular eclipse that created a ring of fire over Africa at the start of September.
That was when the sun remained visible only as a thin circle behind the edge of the moon, as seen below.
