A new dawn for Barton Library as volunteers save the day to keep it open
 

A community library has officially opened its doors to the public after being faced with the threat of closure. Around 50 people gathered as Barton Community Library formally celebrated its new status as a community-managed library with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, October 12.
The transition from a council-led centre to a volunteer-run library has been many years in the making and is believed to be the first example of its kind in the country.
It came about after the county council had to find millions of pounds in savings, and looked into closing several libraries around the county.... read more
