'£150m St Marks rebuild will give us the shops we need, but we fear even MORE disruption'



Shoppers have welcomed plans to rebuild St Marks shopping centre and retail park to make way for a new department store, 1,250 homes, a 130-bed hotel and possibly even a cinema in an exciting development that will also create 1,400 to 2,000 jobs.
In a straw poll, Echo readers said they would like the scheme to include a new cinema or bowling alley and more stores, restaurants and cafes.
The project would lead to the demolition of units currently occupied by firms including Toys R Us, Pizza Hut, Toby Carvery, Homebase, Burger King, as well as the former Lidl and the two-storey car park.
