14-mile stretch of Retford's canal nets national award
 

A lengthy stretch of Retford's canal has been handed national recognition with a top green space award.
The Chesterfield Canal has notched a double Green Flag Award - with one going to a 14-mile section reaching from just outside Retford all the way to West Stockwith.
This national gong, handed out by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country.
The new winner is the easternmost 14 miles of the waterway from Whitsunday Pie Lock near Welham Bridge right through to West Stockwith, where the canal meets the River Trent.
